NEWS

Dear Friends of L’Arche Saskatoon,

Here is information and dates regarding L’Arche Saskatoon events.

Now available...L'Arche Saskatoon Newsletter Fall 2009 (pdf).

UPCOMING EVENTS

1. Friends of L’Arche Gathering – end-of-year BBQ

WHEN: Wednesday, June 16th, 5:30 pm to 8 pm.
WHERE: Diefenbaker Park (weather permitting)

If the weather’s good, we’ll meet at Diefenbaker Park, near the washrooms. If it’s rainy, we’ll meet at Grace Westminster United Church. To get to Diefenbaker Park, go west on Taylor Street as far as you can go, past Queen’s House, and follow the road (which is now Saint Henry Avenue) until you come to the park entrance. Once you enter the park, turn right at the T junction—and watch for signs directing you to the Friends of L’Arche tables.

MENU: If you’re able to bring a salad to share or some easy-to-manage dessert, that would be great! We won’t have a kitchen, so do please bring your own serving spoons if you’re bringing a salad. Be sure to put your name on your serving dishes and utensils so they all get back to their rightful homes at the end of the day. We’ll supply all the burgers, hot dogs, condiments and drinks. We ask for a $5 donation to cover costs (students free).
LAWN CHAIRS: If you have some lawn chairs, bring them along.

2. L’Arche Prayer Nights

Prayer Nights continue on Wednesday nights (except when there’s a Friends of L’Arche Gathering) at Christopher House, at the new time of 7:30pm, with tea and cookies afterwards. All are welcome.

3. L’Arche Saskatoon BBQ fundraiser at the Knights of Columbus Show ‘n’ Shine at Preston Crossing Sunday June 13.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Get involved in something new!:

L’Arche Saskatoon is in need of committee members, board members and helpful volunteers. Please get in touch with Wyndham Thiessen (3067-262-7243) or Margaret Sanche (306-374-5501), if you would like to get involved in some way, whether lots or just a bit from time to time.

OTHER IMPORTANT INFORMATION

If you or someone you know would like to learn more about becoming a L’Arche assistant for the summer or for a year or more – either in Saskatoon or elsewhere in Canada or beyond (L’Arche is an international federation, after all) – check out the L’Arche Saskatoon assistants info or L’Arche Canada (be sure to check out the videos showing L’Arche assistants) or L’Arche International. Assistants usually live in, but sometimes live out of the L’Arche home; they receive training, are paid, have days off each week and month and holiday time each year, go on retreats, learn to live in a caring ecumenical faith community with lots of celebration and fun and friendship and opportunities for personal growth.
