K of C Car Club
The Knights of Columbus Car Club and Show 'n' Shine was started and founded in 1999 by Past Grand Knight Bruce Blom of Council #5104 in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada and is now organized by the K of C Indoor Games. The show started at the old K of C Bingo Hall with a small attendance of about a dozen cars. Now, it has moved to its final home at the Canadian Tire parking lot at Preston Crossing Mall. The new location can accommodate up to 500 vehicles as well as semi trailer units hauling race cars and venders.
The show is a rain or shine event and is always held on the first Saturday in June. The event is a success due to the numerous volunteers that are always willing to help out. All the money raised goes to L'Arche Saskatoon.
Depending on the weather, the show averages about 125 cars from Saskatchewan and Western Canada. Awards are presented in seven different categories including the Barry Grosse Memorial Award. This award is presented in memory of retired school teacher Barry Grosse (an innocent victim of street racers).
The club does not charge the public an entrance fee to see the show; however, L’Arche Saskatoon benefits from money raised through raffles for everything from leather NASCAR / NHRA coats, gift certificates to local restaurants, and two BBQ stands. Some of the donors have been major race teams out of the USA and the Car Show Vice President, Bruce Blom, is always looking for that "special" something that can be offered as a door prize for fans.
